Language & Learning Arts

the art and science
of language-based learning

Your goals are our goals: all therapy activities are directed at producing results in the environments that are most meaningful to you. We design activities to use the materials that clients and families will find salient, relevant, and achievable.

Our holistic methods take into account each child, client, and family. Learning involves memory, attention, and organization, in addition to the systematic introduction of specific content that is designed to build upon and expand existing skills. Our therapists use individualized methods for each student targeted at solidifying prior learning, expanding that learning in new directions, and helping students feel accomplished and independent.

Our Services

Our staff use a variety of customizable programs for the treatment of auditory processing, speech, voice, language, and language-based learning challenges.
Clients typically work on multiple, key skills to assist them with developing and refining effective listening, speaking, reading and writing,
with the overall goal of excellent communication of ideas and thoughts in many modalities.

Evaluation

Diagnostic evaluations use a variety of instruments to measure a wide range of speech, language & learning skills.  The goal of all evaluations is to identify if there is any discrepancy in skills between the client and the typically-functioning population, define the nature and severity of that discrepancy, seek out areas of strength that can be capitalized upon, and formulate an overall plan for treatment.  A written evaluation report contains test procedures and results as well as a plan for treatment and is typically provided within 2-3 weeks after an evaluation.  We frequently include recommendations for accommodations for school-aged children.  We do not provide cognitive (IQ) evaluations, although we maintain a list of local professionals who provide excellent services in that area.

Therapy

Therapy sessions are typically scheduled as regular appointments 1-3 times per week. Sessions are 50 minutes long and focus on solidifying previously learned information, acquiring new skills, and probing future goals. Application and transfer of knowledge to meaningful tasks and environments is a continual focus. Throughout therapy, we maintain an emphasis on:

Sequencing
From the auditory processing of individual speech sounds within words and sentences to the sequence of letters in spelling and reading to the presentation of logical thought in speaking, writing, problem solving, and executive functioning, sequencing is the key to effective communication.

Efficiency
Efficiency can be defined as a skill that is 1) rapid, and 2) accurate.  The rapid and accurate retrieval of words, facts, and procedures is a cornerstone of the learning process.

Transparency
The rationale for all therapy procedures and methods should be clear and explicit to all persons involved in the treatment plan.

What Others Say About Us

If we were to sum up our experiences with Language Learning Arts it would be deeply caring, deeply professional, deeply rigorous evidence-based, patient, skillful practitioners. We have been so fortunate to have our son work with Meredith and her team at LLA and we can recommend them without hesitation for the highest quality speech therapy.

My middle school daughter has been working with Patricia for two school years. The progress is evident. She is reading with much for confidence and ease, which is not only beneficial to her scholastic success; but, is also hugely important for her social and emotional wellbeing. We are grateful for Patricia’s expertise and care. My daughter looks forward to her sessions; there is an added benefit with her interacting with an adult she admires. I believe Patricia’s positivity, and knowledge of student life, has helped our daughter become more comfortable self-advocating and communicating with her teachers. In addition, Kiele expertly navigated switching us over to our new insurance provider seamlessly. Meredith and her LLA team are wonderful to work with and very professional in every way.
